3 Quotes, 3 Days: Day 3

This is the last day of this challenge, and I decided on one of my favorite quotes ever, which has an even deeper meaning when you read more about the person who said it. I cannot think of a single thing I would miss more if someone took it away, than reading. But then again, we miss only what we don’t have. I am thankful for my freedom, education, the roof over my head – but I don’t consider these things a privilege. I consider them a basic human right.

1. Thank the person who nominated you.

  1. Perfect quote to end with! I actually read parts of Douglass’ autobiography for one of my English classes in college, and he talked a lot about the freedom that comes with reading and how, in a way, it actually literally lead to his own freedom. A few of the slaves started what was essentially a reading group, and they would study texts (I believe they primarily read the Bible, cause that was all they could get their hands on at the time) and learn to read from it, which allowed them to form stronger bonds with each other and rise up against the slave owners. There definitely is power that comes with reading!
