Hello dear readers! You may have though I was abducted by aliens since I disappeared for a while, but no such luck for me. It was simply a combination of a 4-day music festival, its consequences, and a lot of work that I’m terribly behind on. I’ll try to ease back into blogging now, as I miss it and you guys very much! I’ll start with a tag I’ve been delaying for so long, and with a thank-you to the marvelous Orangutan Librarian for tagging me! Let us begin!
BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ YET IN 2018
Ohh this is a tough one, since I’ve read so many good books this year! You can see my top ten here, but if I really have to choose just one, let it be The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. My review is here, and I hope it makes you want to read this extraordinary gem!
BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2016
Hmm, I’ve read a total of six sequels this year, but I’ll go with a not-so-direct sequel that is My Plain Jane, because it’s the most recent one I’ve read and I loved it! Review to come very soon!
NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO
I’ll go with Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, which I haven’t been able to get an ARC of, because international, so I satisfied myself with buying Uprooted, which I’ll read soon!
MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR
That would definitely be City of Ghosts by the amazing Victoria Schwab, which I’m currently waiting the ARC verdict of, I’m guessing my odds are slim because the publisher already rejected me, because international, so I’m taking my chances with E+, fingers crossed.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
Oooh well, I do love every chance of mentioning the horrid experience that was The Crow Garden. You can read my GR review here, it does spoil the ending, but trust me, that is one of the major points why you shouldn’t even consider reading this junk.
BIGGEST SURPRISE
Since I’ve already used Evelyn Hardcastle and My Lady Jane on other prompts, I’ll go with a graphic novel series for this one. It’s, of course, Locke & Key. The biggest surprise was in the fact I’ve had these novels on my shelf for so long without reading them, and now that I finally did I’m so happy because they’re awesome! My review for volume 1 can be read here, others to follow.
FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR
Catherynne M. Valente without a second thought. I can’t wait to continue her Fairyland series because it’s so good and whimsical! My review of the first novel in series can be read here.
NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH
Umm none? I just haven’t read any books with crush material this year, unless we count My Lady Jane and My Plain Jane where almost all main characters are so lovely and charming, and I definitely have something going on for Lady Jane from the first one, and for Alexander from the second one.
NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER
That would most certainly be Lyra from His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman, and you’ll get a full explanation of that in my upcoming review!
BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
I’ve rummaged through my read list for 2018 and it seems I haven’t been reading any sad books this year, but the conclusion to The Raven Cycle made me all teary AF.
BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
My Lady Jane without a doubt! It was such a happy and lovely experience! You can read my gushing review here.
FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION
So I’ll cheat here a bit and I’ll go with book to TV, as I haven’t watched any movie adaptations this year (I think), and I’ll go with a book I haven’t read yet, but I hope I will soon because the series was brutally amazing! It’s The Terror by Dan Simmons.
FAVOURITE POST YOU HAVE DONE THIS YEAR
Hmm all of my posts ever were done this year, but I quite liked writing the recent review for We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. You can read it here.
MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT THIS YEAR
It’s The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss, and I can’t wait to read it!
WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR
Oooh many. So so many. I’ll start with the ones on my summer TBR and we’ll go on from there.
On this lovely occasion I shall tag everyone who is freaked out as I am that it’s already the end of July, and everyone ho wants to do it!
It’s almost August! Are you guys freaking out? I sure am. Which books do you want to read before the end of the year? Let me know in the comments, and happy reading! ❤
haha love your freakout picture!! I still really need to read seven deaths. Glad my plain jane was such a good sequel!! I’m looking forward to it 😀 Yay that Lyra is one of your new favourite characters- I love her!! And my lady jane made me so happy!! Awesome answers!

Locke & Key has been on my list for a while.
I read two books by Joe Hill. One i liked (Nos4R2), one i didn’t (Horns), so i’m kind of on the fence about his stuff right now.
Terror looks pretty good! I might even watch it. I remember seeing the trailer somewhere, but i didn’t realize it was based on a book. I’m very observant… not 😀

I haven’t read any of his novels yet, but I’m pretty hyped for the Heart shaped Box and NOS4R2, those feel like my kind of thing more than Horns. 🙂 Locke & Key has an amazingly interesting story, and it reads pretty quickly, hope you try it! 🙂
Haha maybe on one of my posts because I put it several times xD It’s so good, and it’s a 10-episode mini series, I have a preference for those lately because I don’t get suck into the madness of binge-watching. 😀

I’m looking forward to Spinning Silver as well, and We Have Always Lived in the Castle was one of my favorite reads!

Oh, wow! I’d never heard of The Terror before but it looks great. Definitely going to have to check that out. Thanks for the heads up! 🙂

It’s amazing! Hope you like it, whether you try the book or the show first! I want to read the novel so bad, but I might wait for winter for some icy atmosphere to match the creepiness of the book. 😀

Ooh, that’s a good idea! I loved reading The Bear and the Nightingale during the winter. It was the perfect time to read it. 🙂

Haha I bought The Bear and the Nightingale last winter and missed my chance, so I’m saving it for this winter. 😀

Nice! 🙂 Reading it in winter will definitely add to the overall experience of the book. I hope you enjoy it! ❤

I hope you enjoyed your festival! The Terror looks incredibly creepy! Both book and show. Something about the ice and snow *shudder* I think makes for a very good atmospheric horror setting!

I did, thanks! 🙂 Oh it is soo creepy! The atmosphere is amazing! Especially creepy is the fact it’s based on true events which still remain a mystery, and the author tried to fill in the gaps. 🙂

Sometimes the books based on real life mysteries make for the creepiest ones because you just never know what happened! I think the show might be too scary for me – hahah!

I know, that’s why I love them so much! Haha noo, it’s not scary, more gruesome I think, with a huge air of creepiness around it. I mean just imagine around 100 guys trapped in solid ice for several years, madness ensues pretty quickly.

I just recently got My Lady Jane in the mail and I’m so excited to read it! I have no doubt I’ll love it because the blurb itself had me laughing haha

Seems like an overall great year so far! I am totally freaking out about the fact that it’s almost August. So far my favourite book I read in 2018 is probably Lost in the Beehive by Michele Young-Stone. I read The Raven King years ago and I agree, it’s a total tear jerker! :”)

So far it is, hope it continues down this path! 🙂 Me too, I just can’t believe how time flies so fast! I’ll check that book out, thanks! 🙂 Ughh I know :’)
