Round Up

A round-up of… six months?

Hello dear people! All of you know I’ve been gone for a long while, and I can’t say it enough – I’m terribly sorry for that, but anxiety just took a big toll on my daily life and habits. I won’t whine, quite the opposite – I firmly decided I want to live and enjoy my life much much more. I’m in the early stages of starting a business of my own, I want to get back to the hobbies I let wilt and die – drawing and origami (And reading, let’s be real.), and of course blogging. But, you may ask, what I’ve been up to these couple of months, since I apparently wasn’t doing anything? Well… stuff?

Ahem… All year.

I bought/was gifted some gorgeous books:

I met Katherine Arden and got my books signed!

This was a small event in my town, Novi Sad, but Katherine went to our capital, Belgrade too. This NEVER ever happens in Serbia, and I’m so incredibly lucky to have attended this, and I was almost late because I had a nap OMG. I had all 3 books so I brought them with me, my boyfriend came too, as a support much needed because my anxiety was over the roof. While I waited in line to have my books signed I was spiraling out, forgetting not only English, but how to speak words in general. BUT! When it was my turn – and take note I had to sit with Katherine in the spotlight in front of what felt like aΒ  million people – I couldn’t bloody shut up! Katherine is SO nice and friendly! We shook hands and met, I sat with her and we started to chat. We talked about her books, YA and fantasy in general, how this is a rare event in Serbia, but that it can prove to other authors they can come here, she told me about her European tour and she loved my Slytherin tote!!! I also casually mentioned my blog mhmhmhm and..the rest is a blur. I know we chatted about 5-10 minutes and laughed a lot but I was so nervous you guys. Hopefully another fantasy/YA author comes to Serbia again, and next time I’ll keep it together, promise. I will treasure this moment forever.

I gave a lot of pets and belly-rubs, and was in turn bitten and scratched quite a lot (Totally worth it.)

I got hooked on podcasts!

I’ve always been obsessed with true crime as many of you know, but so far my sources were documentaries, wikis and reddit threads, and then I discovered podcasts! The first one I stumbled upon was Crime Junkie and I was instantly hooked! It’s a true crime podcast hosted by two girls who are bffs and who love dogs! So each month there’s a dog segment too! I enjoy the crime more though, lol. They do this show in a respectful way and present a missing/murdered/serial killer case every Monday, but they often joke around (with taste), so that makes it easier to listen lol. I listened to every single episode and am currently considering becoming a patreon so I can get access to even more episodes, I need more!

The other podcast I’m hooked on is called Lore. I already knew about it because I’ve watched the TV series based off of it, which was okay, not amazing, and because there are three books based on this too. I think the podcast is the best, honestly. Each episode features amazing and eerie music, the host does his job well, even if I don’t really like his voice, and the stories are super creepy and informative. It’s all about weird, dark and unexplained things that happened in history, or which people have believed in centuries ago (Some do now too.), about real people or events shrouded in mystery or darkness and mostly about folklore. You can listen about the true origins of belief in Vampires (My country is featured here!), Witches and Wendigos, about people like H.H. Holmes, Elizabeth Bathory and Marie Laveau, about the Pied Piper, Changelings, Hidden Folk and Jersey Devil. Do you like mysterious, dark and unexplained? Lore has you covered!

I was horribly disappointed

I chopped half of my hair.

I won a Barnes & Noble gift card giveaway!

And bought this beauty!

And that’s about it, sadly.

Now, on to actually doing instead of procrastinating. One method I’ve come across which helps me read more is buddy reading! I’m currently doing a buddy read of Pet Sematary with Kara @ Bernard’s Book Blog and I think it’s going well! But I’d love to do more! These are some of the books I’m interested in reading in the next couple of months, so if anyone would like to buddy read one of these with me – please let me know!

Also, my friend Hana @ Lady Bibliotaph has come up with a great idea for blog boosting, which we’ll do tomorrow. We’ll do guest posts on each other’s blogs by interviewing each other! Questions will mostly revolve around reading and books, and once that is up, you guys can check it out and let me know if anyone wants to do that with me? It should be fun!

Now that I’ve covered my plans for better reading and blogging in the future it’s time to resolve my last weak point – communication. I have trouble with that in real life too, and as a result I’ve ended up with just a few good friends (Which can also be a good thing, right?), but I’m terrible at keeping in touch. What’s even worse is when your friends live on the other side of the globe. In comes social media! So, if anyone wants to talk, chat, discuss books, video games, cats or anxiety, or even just send pizza emojis, you can reach me on any of these networks:

I am always online. Or sleeping. So feel free to add me and let’s hang out sometimes!

  1. Ohhhhh I’m so jealous that you met Katherine Arden! And those Serbian editions are stunning – I once contemplated whether I should buy them (regardless of whether I speak the language or not lol) because of how gorgeous they are. Tbh though, all the editions of that series are beautiful. πŸ˜€

lol @ all those Game of Thrones memes; the one of Bran being the “younger/more beautiful queen” just had me bursting out laughing out loud. Oh my god that show ended so badly, and I’m not even a fan!

And girl, I get you about that anxiety, and I’m the WORST when it comes to communication too. My friends literally have an ongoing joke about how I don’t answer texts and how I won’t contact them until like a year later…which legitimately came true. πŸ˜‚

    1. Hehe, well you might meet her too! πŸ™‚ I know, they’re gorgeous, I love they made such an effort! ❀ Haha well if I really loved a cover I might buy it to, regardless of the language. πŸ˜€

Haha yup, that one is hilarious and also devastating when you think of it. xD Yes, it broke my heart in pieces. πŸ˜₯

Hahaha well I just got sent a meme about not answering my phone yesterday, it's the second time by the same person. xD Yeah, I do that too, it's not like I enjoy it, it's more like I can't. :/ That's why I'm much better at online chatting/communication, it's kind of easier, I don't know. :/ Feel free to add me wherever if you want to chat, I followed you on Instagram. πŸ™‚ __>

  2. Those kittens!!!! 😍

How wonderful that you got to meet an author you admire and that she held an event near you! I can imagine being nervous for that, and it’s funny you said you started forgetting English. When I’m really upset or distraught in some way I completely lose my other languages, only English is there.

And I love Lore! Such a good podcast. It’s my favorite to listen to while I’m falling asleep (I end up having to relisten to a lot of episodes because of this but they’re worth more than one listen!) His voice and the piano music are strangely soothing. I tried Crime Junkie and I just can’t get into it but I feel like I’m the only one! I didn’t like that the one girl (not the main one) sounded like her responses and questions to advance the narrative were written and she was reading them. Maybe that stops after earlier episodes or something?

    1. Kitties galore! πŸ™‚

Thank you, it was a wonderful experience! πŸ™‚ Haha well I let my anxiety get the best of me for a moment there but I somehow miraculously recovered just in time. xD

Yay, another Lore fan! Haha I have to relisten a lot, but I don’t mind either! πŸ™‚ I love the music and the tone of his voice too, but sometimes when I concentrate on his voice it’s too nasal and I hate that. xD Though I don’t notice it when I concentrate on the story itself. πŸ™‚

Yeah I know exactly what you’re talking about! Britt sounds like she’s there just to comment stupid stuff at first, though I have to admit I kinda loved each time she said “Full body chills” whenever it gets too creepy, and that became their catchphrase. Later on she starts meaningfully participating and debating so it does get better!

      1. I know what you mean, if I pick up on something that bugs me in someone’s tone or style then it only gets progressively worse! That was what happened to me with Crime Junkie, I know lots of podcasts are scripted but that one felt more heavy-handed than most. Maybe I’ll give it a try again at some point again though!

        1. Well… Now I say DON’T listen to Crime Junkie at all. It was discovered a few days ago they steal a lot of content from other podcasts and articles and they don’t cite sources. :/ It all might have been okay(ish) if they hadn’t handled it horribly – they issued a generic statement in which they don’t accept responsibility at all, nor apologize; then they deleted all the episodes which were copied; then they added sources on all their content to make it seem it was always there, and now they’re pretending nothing happened. Ugly.

        2. I heard about it!!! That’s outrageous. The journalists and other podcasters they were stealing from had put in a ton of hard work. I read the reaction from the journalist who’d written an intense four-part article on a missing persons case, had worked with the family, etc. and they just ripped her off completely. She was rightly furious. What a shame, really! Supposedly they make a lot of money and their podcast sounds like it’s blown up recently, which must be even more frustrating for the people they’ve copied.

Do you know the podcast The Trail Went Cold? It’s one of my favorites – cold cases, thoroughly researched, and the host,
Robin Warder, gives really interesting commentary with his thoughts and possibilities. He just sounds so kind, I love listening to him. They took some research from him for one case and I was so offended on his behalf, lol. Maybe this will introduce some of their listeners to the other podcasts and writers who have put in the work to tell these stories.

        3. I know, it’s horrible, it seems they got even more attention because of it, but it’s just SO wrong!

I heard of it but haven’t listened yet, I’m currently going through My Favorite Murder, I like it, especially because of the humor, I need it to suppress the awful crimes haha. πŸ˜€ I will definitely try The Trail Went Cold next, thanks for the recommendation! πŸ™‚

  3. The Lore podcast sounds so interesting!!
I have (and need to read, so a buddy read would be great) Spinning Silver, The Bear and the Nightingale, and Vicious. Let me know if you would like to buddy read any of these with me!!

    1. Oh it is, you should try listening one episode! The first one is about Vampires. πŸ™‚

Awesome! I’d definitely want to read one of those with you! Let me just finish up the two books I’m currently reading and I’ll get back to you – in a week or two, if that’s okay? πŸ™‚

  4. I LOVE the Lore podcast! I used to listen to it all the time when I had an office job. Definitely helped to pass the time. And I love that you were talking with Katherine Arden! I’m so glad she was so nice. Also I’m LOVING our buddy read! We should totally do it more often. It def helps me keep going. Idk if I would’ve gotten this far into the book if I was reading solo! I’ve been so bad at finishing books lately. But I’m having so much fun now!

    1. Yay! I agree, it’s so good! Since I binged Crime Junkie, I’m now 100% focused on Lore, if you have a similar podcast to recommend please do! πŸ™‚ I know, me too! Agree, we should definitely do it more often, not only that I feel a sense of duty to you to keep reading but it’s fun too! πŸ™‚ I suck at keeping up too, so it’s lucky we’ve found each other! πŸ˜€ ❀
