May Round-up

Hello lovely people! Another weird month of 2020 is behind us, and we’re left wondering what the heck is going to happen next? Is this how we’re going to live from now until the end of the world? Should we just chill and read a book amid this apocalypse? I am confused. I am totally NOT ready for a Walking Dead scenario, so if something like that happens, I’m glad I knew you all. You fought bravely and with honor. Until then, let’s talk books.

What I’ve Read in May:

Impressed by my most heroic feat of April, where I managed to read all eight books from my TBR, of course I made a May TBR, and of course I haven’t read all. No worries, I’ll just sneakily shuffle the rest to June. I did read three ARCs and I am very proud of that if I may say so.

This is a highly ambitious list, especially considering we’re already a week in June and I haven’t read a whole book yet. Some days are better than others so hopefully I’ll manage to read at least half, and the rest I’ll shuffle to the next month.

In ARC news: I have been most *CRUELLY* denied ARCs for Stuart Turton’s The Devil and the Dark Water, V.E.Schwab’s The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and Susanna Clarke’s Piranesi, literally my most anticipated books of the life decade. I have an inkling it has something to do with me being an international blogger and I can go into a full rage mode but I will keep my cool because I am zen and nothing can hurt me.

TV/Movies

As always, Netflix is there for me in the darkest of hours, and I’ve binged a cool lesser known show called Dead to Me (Like NetGalley is dead to me ^ get it) starring the best gals Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini and my best boi James Marsden (Marry me already). Go watch. Recommend.

I have also finished season 5 of Outlander and do not know who to hurt, give me an address and a flame thrower. I’ve been trying to read a corresponding novel in the series before the season based on it airs, but in season 5 they covered book 5 AND a significant chunk of book 6, so I was surprised, shocked, hurt, put on the highway and driven over by seventeen monster trucks and then tortured with paper cuts all over the rest of my body.

After reading and loving Sharp Objects, I watched the HBO miniseries starring my goddess, queen, supreme, Amy Adams. All the other actresses in this are goddesses too BTW. It is very good, so if you want to skip the book (Do not recommend) you can watch it. Trigger warning for self harm (A major theme), and all kinds of abuse towards children.

 

I have watched a few cool movies in May: Ready or Not, starring Samara Weaving, my IMDB rating 8/10; The Call of the Wild, starring Harrison Ford and a CGI doggo, my rating on IMDB 8/10; and Jojo Rabbit, starring Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, tears and Taika Waititi as Hitler, my rating on IMDB 9/10.

 

Other

In other news: I ate a lot during the quarantine and gained weight, as was expected of a true quarantined snowflake. Now I’m working on getting rid of that. Exercise hurts. As I mentioned in my last roundup, I made an Instagram account for my art attempts, you can look at it here: @mallodora_grymm_art   I would certainly appreciate any follows and comments, but no pressure, it’s not book related anyway. Here are a few drawings, hopefully these will get better with time.
